John Rasberry’s landscape oil paintings invoke traditional representational art at its finest. He is inspired by landscapes, people at work and scenes of everyday life. “I paint what I love – dramatic lighting on landscapes and lifescapes,” says John. “Capturing the ‘golden hour’ of the morning and evening light or the mood of a foggy morning or stormy afternoon is everything. That moment can be elusive and may only last a few seconds. It can disappear and reappear like magic. It’s my inspiration. I strive to capture and convey that sense of place along with the feeling of that moment. My hope is that when people view my paintings they will feel that fleeting moment and share my experience. When I hear someone say ‘I feel like I’ve been there,’ I know I have made a connection and communicated my experience through my art.”

John grew up in Texas, where he still resides. He was captivated by the artwork created by two of his aunts, and in grade school, his work often showed up in his school’s display cases. In junior high, he won scholarships to summer art camps. John graduated from Howard Payne University in Texas with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in communication design, and he pursued a career in graphic design and owned a successful design business. He also taught design and illustration classes at Texas Tech University School of Art.

John is a member of the Oil Painters of America. He has participated in numerous exhibitions with Oil Painters of America, California Art Club, Greenhouse Gallery Salon International and American Plains Artists.
